How Often Should You Clean Your House?

clean your house

Is there anything worse than living in a dirty home?

We don’t think so. Stepping over dirty clothes, using a smelly bathroom, and putting yet another dirty dish in a full sink all have a measurable impact on quality of life. That is, they ruin it.

Luckily, these circumstances can easily be avoided with a bit of regular cleaning. Read on for an answer to the question of how often should you clean your house, broken down by timeframe.

Daily Cleanups

Straightening up general clutter around the house takes no more than ten minutes and will do wonders for keeping your home looking neat and tidy. Put all the various clothing items and random objects in their proper place, clear the floor from debris and wipe down frequently used surfaces with a disinfectant wipe.

This idea of a quick ten-minute cleanup also applies to the kitchen and bathrooms. Instead of letting dishes pile up in the sink, wash them immediately after use or right before bed. After washing your hands in the bathroom sink, take a wet wipe and wipe the countertops down. You’ll be supposed how easy cleaning a home is by keeping up with daily chores.

Weekly Cleanups

Weekly clean-ups should generally be deeper than daily cleanups. This is the time to focus on areas like the fridge, the floors, and the bathroom toilets and showers. Anywhere that sees frequent use, but doesn’t get dirty every day is fair game for your weekly cleanup.

A great way to implement weekly cleanups into your schedule is to pick one day (we recommend Sundays), put on some of your favorite music, and clean up while singing your lungs out. Alternatively, weekly cleanups are perfect work for professional house cleaners. If you can afford it, consider hiring a reputable company to do this work for you.

Monthly/Seasonal Cleanups

Hard to reach, hard to clean, and hard to notice parts of your house are best reserved for monthly or seasonal cleanup. Curtains and light fixtures, carpets and rugs, and between and under furniture are all great places to get to with this timeframe. Just as with weekly cleanups, the deeper you can clean here, the better. That way, you can go longer without revisiting these areas.

In terms of scheduling, it can be tough to know when exactly to start your monthly cleanup. A simple way to put a date to your monthly cleanup is to add it on top of one of your weekly cleanup days every four times. For instance, if you normally do your weekly cleanups on a Friday, you would do a monthly cleanup after four Fridays. That way, you won’t forget.
