How to Prepare an Effective Moving Schedule

moving schedule

Did you know that Americans report finding the process of moving one of the most stressful life events? From moving heavy boxes to packing up your entire life, it’s no surprise that people feel this way.

However, there are a few ways to make your move a breeze. Properly planning and scheduling your move are some of the best ways to avoid added stress.

Whether you’re moving for the first time or you’re a seasoned pro in need of a refresher, keep reading to learn how to create and execute an effective moving schedule.

Create a Timeline

Once you’ve decided to move, it’s important to get on top of the process before you’re shoving things into boxes last minute.

An easy way to organize your move is to create a timeline of events and tasks you’ll need to do before the big day rolls around. An easy way to stay on track is by organizing tasks by week.

For example, starting 8 weeks before your move, you’ll want to look into local moving services and start organizing your paperwork. 6 weeks before the move, declutter. 4 weeks before the move, is when you should start packing.

While there are other extremely important tasks, like contacting your internet service providers and changing your mailing address, you’ll have an idea of how to organize your schedule.

Make Your Checklists

Creating different checklists for different tasks is extremely important to keep yourself organized and on top of your moving day. Whether you use an electronic or printable moving checklist, be sure to sit down and fill them out.

From writing down the things to do when moving out of a house to noting all of the important tasks you included on your schedule, keeping a list is one of the best ways to stay organized.

Similarly, having a physical list allows you the opportunity to see how much you’ve accomplished, letting you know where you stand in terms of your schedule. Plus, nothing feels better than crossing a hard task off your list!

Frequently Check Your Schedule

After you create your moving timeline and checklist, you’ll want to reference them frequently. There’s no point in planning if you’re not going to stick to it!

Though this seems obvious, moving is only one aspect of your busy life and can fall into the background. Between jobs, family, and other things that come up, your move in 2 months can seem far away.

However, time flies, and you’ll be kicking yourself for neglecting your lists. Be sure to keep them in a visible area, and dedicate a set amount of time each week to complete important moving tasks.

Enjoy a Smooth Transition With a Moving Schedule

While it may seem like you can remember all of the tasks you need to complete before your move, things can often slip your mind. Before you know it, moving day is here and you forgot to request time off from work!

Creating a moving schedule and checklists is a surefire way to stay organized, prepared, and make moving stress-free. Happy moving!
