Putting your pet to sleep is surely the toughest call you will make if you are an animal lover. You may want to know when you should put your pet to sleep. There is no such specific answer which can be firmly said to be right or wrong. It completely depends on you. However, when you feel that your companion has a disease that is giving him or her continuous pain and it is not curable, it is better to put your pet to sleep.

How You Will Understand the Correct Time

It is your pet, and you know him or her the best. You can check for a few clues to understand whether the time has come to put your pet to sleep. If your pet has started behaving antisocial or reclusive and he or she is not eating properly, those are not good signs.

You may also see the pain your pet is consuming daily as his illness is getting more critical. If you see that your pet is becoming unresponsive to the commands you are providing him or her, then you may decide to let your pet sleep.

Talk to an Expert

It is always better to speak to a veterinarian before taking such a tough decision. He or she will be able to judge your pet’s pain. He may not tell you directly whether it is the correct time to put your pet to sleep, but he will give you a much better idea about the overall health condition of your pet, which will be helpful for you in taking the necessary decision. If you become sure that your pet is severely sick and there is no hope of recovering, it is better to put it to sleep to relieve the pain.

Decisions to be Taken

It would help if you made certain important decisions when you see that the time has come to put your pet to sleep. It would be best to decide whether you will be with your pet when he or she goes through euthanasia. It would be best if you also decided whether you would involve your children at that time.

You have to decide on the final resting place for your beloved pet. You can choose between cremation and burial. You can go for a private or mass cremation per your budget. You may also do a postmortem to find out the actual reason for your pet’s death.

When your pet is alive and playful, you need to take the highest care of him or her so that when the time comes to put your pet to sleep, you will not have any regret. Hence, you can purchase invisible fences because those will help keep your pet inside the premises, and they will be safe.
